Deep Garden

The eyes dart and light puddles in the trees
the pitter of insect feet
regular as clock orchestra
beautifully out of synch
each a piece of nonsense

a coherent cacophony
clapping along
clipping its hoofs
sonic mayhem
on the cobbles
chaos thrashing about like fish

has anybody noticed how we fear sharks and piranha
as we dredge the sea beds without mercy
so nature hits back with hurricanes

why the tea party asks dear God why
as wall street gives way and the stock
exchange submerged ink bearing octopi
grasping at the banks
amid the whispers of guards
at the edges of this microscopic realm

merely in a drop on a leaf
rolling along hitting the ground
absorbed into the equation
bursting into life
at the edge of the garden
