Turn

The white cat escaped the horses
and you, on foot offered to pursue

and you followed it back over the hill
as it wove its sleek form through
aged wooden struts the farmer had
hoped would stop the raging bull
if it ev’r tried to escape

the old beast was not interested
so you crossed the boundary to encourage
the feline interloper back onto the roadside
now the slinky temptress was on the right side
of the fence and you were stuck
so dissembled your form and passed straight
through

the cat now wandered back and when you arrived at the corner
the mounted riders gathered in a shed for hot tea
and you handed the cat back to its rightful owner
its shabby tabby rippling coat smiling back at you
